booling

 Hello
These were the photos i tried to put on yesterday. I went to bowling with my dad. The summer season has finished , so its indoors for the winter.

This is Portpatrick bowls club
I learned alot that night.
Bools require a great deal of skill and good eyesight.
Its played of teams of pairs and it is teamwork .With one telling the other at the other end where his bools are placed and the best way to get their bool as close to the Jack [ little white ball ] knocking the other teams bools away from the jack..

Just to make it that bit more difficult , there is 2 sticks halfway down the length of the mat. One on top of the other , and if hit then that bool is taken out of play. Preferably the bool curves around the sticks in to the best position closest to the jack.
Each bool has a weight on one side of it [ as they aren't round like a ball but have a flatter edge to the bottom]. This determines the curve of the ball as it goes down the mat. or green if in the summer.. Either going left or right depending on which side you play it
The score is determined by how many bools of each team are closer to the jack.. The most amount of each teams balls closest is the winner.
As you bool , and your bools go to that one end. all bools are played and you then start from the end you have all booled to.
We played 12 ends.
This is my dad . he wears special flat bottomed shoes , so as not to damage the mat. Showing just the right amount of push and let go required to get a good shot. Further down in the pictures , there is a photo of three bools sitting closest to the jack. These are my dads after this shot. Well done dad. Fist pump was given and well deserved.
This is Bobby. Nice man and played some cracking shots
Portpatrick bowling club is a great place to learn the game. They are very patient accepting all levels of ability and the people are really nice.
I did have a go but stayed on the red rubber mat . I had the wrong shoes.
Dad told me what to do and i listened , "don't hit the stick in the middle and keep 6 inches off the edge of the mat "
I lined the bool up and just as i was getting ready to throw, noticed the whole hall had gone quiet . That was it , nerves came in and , well i sort of sent the sticks in the middle flying.
I always have been better at lobbing things. If the object of the game was to hit that bloody big rat way over there with a nice big rock , then yes i would have been brilliant and a valued member of the lobbing at rats team.Delicate is just not quite me . But with a bit of practice and the nice guys and girls here i am sure i would get it eventually. My dad likes this club as everyone in it gets the chance to do the competitions unlike some bowling clubs , who only put there best forward. The result gotten outwaying the game. But i would imagine that the best way to get good players would be to give everyone the experience of competitions , so their game can be brought forward and some sense of achievement gained..
Well i had a good time . Everyone was lovely and welcoming and with most clubs like these , it is also a good night out. Plenty of banter going on. They always welcome new members , so if you fancy ago then these lot would be a great team to learn from .
I do apologise for any wrong things said about the playing of the game , there was terms like burnt end and chalk put on bools that touched the jack , that i didn't quite get. But it was all go and hard to keep up.
Thanks everybody , i had a great time and hope to visit again when i am up. Good luck in all the future competitions. I was going to get dad to put the bottom photo in the free press , untill i noticed the fun and games going on with Gordons bools. Oh yes and just so everyone knows , my dad is second from the left.
